AGSE – Applied Geoinformatics for Society and Environment – was initiated in 2009. The conference takes place annually and each year it is held in a different world location.

The AGSE conferences

The overall scope of these conferences is to offer an interdisciplinary, international forum for sharing knowledge about the science and application of Geoinformatics with a focus on developing countries.

Besides invited keynotes the conference invites presentations to a variety of topics focused on the selected theme for that year. In addition to the presentations and keynote addresses professional training and workshops about current topics in the fields of Geoinformatics and Photogrammetry will be held.


The venue

AGSE 2018 is going to take place at the Namibia University of Science and Technology (NUST).

The Namibia University of Science and Technology (NUST), an institute of tertiary education in Windhoek, Namibia, was established in 1994 through an Act of Parliament and is situated in the heart of the City of Windhoek, Namibia. On 12 December 2012 Cabinet resolved that the formely named Polytechnic of Namibia should be renamed to the Namibia University of Science and Technology.

Currently, the NUST has over 12,000 students studying on a full-time, part-time and distance education basis. It consists of seven Schools/ Faculties namely, the Faculty of Computing and Informatics, Engineering, Health and Applied Sciences, Human Sciences, Management Sciences, Natural Resources and Spatial Sciences and the Harold Pupkewitz Graduate School of Business.

The Department of Geo-Spatial Sciences and Technology, within the faculty of Natural Resources and Spatial Sciences, offers degrees in Geomatics and Geoinformation Information Technology and a Masters in Geoinformation Science and Earth Observation and a Masters of Spatial Science. The department is supported by 18 full time staff bringing with them both local and international expertise. In addition the department receives support and contributions from local and international stakeholders in the delivery of their degree programs, ensuring that our material is kept current and relevant.
